A Bit About Me

Welcome, I'm Sandy@Spiral. Let me tell you a short story about my childhood!

When I was growing up, like many kids, I saw a lovely bird in our garden and ran inside to draw it, grabbing my tin of crayons and pencils from the cupboard. Half a hour later, I threw those same crayons up the wall in frustration because I couldn't capture the wonder of that little bird outside. From that moment on, my belief that I wasn't artistic or creative formed in my head and stayed with me for decades. I was about seven years old at the time and it took many years and one stone carving workshop (which was a Christmas gift) for me to understand just how wrong I was!

It turned out I was pretty good at stone carving, and from there I discovered I was also pretty good at making beeswax candles. I tried arm knitting, origami, pom pom making, ribbon flowers and decopatch and my confidence grew - there was no stopping me! Eventually, I also tried wire sculpting and modelling with polymer clay and I knew I had found my loves in life!

 â€‹

I still can't draw, and I admire anyone who can, I just needed to uncover the techniques and topics that suited my skills. And now I've made it my mission to help others uncover their hidden talents too!

Come along to one of my workshops and explore different crafts. Try your hand, with support right next to you, and see how much you can achieve. If you are already very artistic, come along and try something a little unusual and flex a different part of your creative muscle.

I look forward to seeing you there!
